“Living our faith through word and action” is more than just a slogan here at
Rittman UMC. We have many
opportunities to use the gifts and talents which God has given each of us.
By working together, we can accomplish so much more than by working
alone.
Food Pantry.
On the third Wednesday of each month we serve a light meal and distribute
a box of groceries to those in need right here in Rittman.
We can always use help collecting and purchasing food, packing the boxes
and of course serving the meal and distributing the food.
Back yard Missions.
This year we are working with several other United Methodist churches
here in northern Wayne County to lend a hand doing yard work and minor repairs
to homes. We’ll begin in June but
projects will be happening all summer.
Community Christmas Basket Program.
Under the leadership of the Christ Seeker Sunday school class, the community of
Rittman comes together to provide food and gifts for the children for over 200
families each year. Work
begins in October.
School Supplies.
Early each Fall we collect and distribute through the Rittman Elementary School
several backpacks full of school supplies for children in need.
Blanket Sunday.
Every January we collect new blankets to distribute to the homeless and others
in need in Wooster and throughout Wayne County.
Flood Buckets.
We collect and distribute through the United Methodist Committee on
Relief (UMCOR) several 5-gallon buckets full of cleaning items such as sponges
and household cleaner and work gloves.
We do this in May for distribution in early June.
Community Valentine’s Day Dinner.
This is more than a fund-raiser for our Food Pantry as we host an opportunity
for neighbors to get together to enjoy an evening of food, fellowship and
entertainment.
Pennies from Heaven.
On the first Sunday of each month, we collect loose change during our worship
services to support missionary couples in New Mexico and Costa Rica.
Other Programs.
Several of our small groups and Sunday school classes have projects of
their own. Projects such as “care
packages” for military personnel,
bell-ringing for Salvation Army, volunteering to help People to People in
Wooster, and Habitat for Humanity all just happen as the Holy Spirit moves
different people to engage in ministry.
